School Library Journal Defamation of SafeLibraries

School Library Journal loves SafeLibraries!  Not really.  It has decided to defame me with a false claim of harassment.  It blocks me on social media and smears me in print.  But that's one way to tell if an investigative reporter is being effective.  School Library Journal certainly thinks so:

A public teen librarian in Maryland described harassment at the library, online, and in the media.

“A person spray-painted ‘GR[**]MER’ on two of our buildings, and a woman came to a program and loudly talked about ‘those people’ and called an LGBTQ+ display ‘disgusting,’” the librarian wrote. “I was also harassed by Dan Kleinman of Safe Libraries for being a groomer based on my work with the Rainbow Book List. My social justice camps were featured on Fox News web.”

Naturally, what School Library Journal has reported about me is false.  It may amount to defamation.  I might write to have a correction submitted based on the following.

I looked up "The 2023 Rainbow Book List" to find, "Members of the 2023 Rainbow Book List are: ... Isaiah West, Prince George’s County Memorial Library System (MD)...," where Isaiah West, pictured at right, was the only member from Maryland, as indicated in the School Library Journal hit piece.  I do not recall ever hearing that name or seeing that face before.  Searches on my social media provide zero results (until now, I suppose).

So I'm being accused of misdemeanor harassment in Maryland by a guy I don't know and never discussed in writing, and School Library Journal is publishing it as if it were true.  To me, that's defamation, and when one is accused of a misdemeanor/crime, that's defamation per se.  Especially so in light of SLJ doing no copy editing/fact checking, in which case no connection between me and Isaiah West would have been found and SLJ would have struck the defamation from the story.

Journalists are supposed to fact check, even double check, after all.  Don't let the name "School Library Journal" fool you, there's no actual journalism being practiced.

Just to be sure I have identified the right person, I dug a little deeper and I found him and his "social justice camps," as referenced in SLJ's defamatory publication.  So I'm certain that's him smearing me, I'm certain it's a fiction, and now I'm certain School Library Journal may have committed defamation per se.

I'll start with asking for a correction, although if the print edition is already out, it may be too late.  And doing a stealth edit online (like American Libraries does) will not be enough.  There must be a public correction and I must be informed where it is online and in print.  You don't just defame parents who oppose American Library Association's s3xualization of school children by school librarians and get away with it.

Here is that additional evidence I considered:

Smith, Letitia. “August 2023 Member of the Month: Isaiah West.” Text. Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), July 27, 2023. https://www.ala.org/yalsa/august-2023-member-month-isaiah-west.

Conclusion:

NOTE ADDED EVEN DATE:

I have requested a retraction from School Library Journal.  No response yet.

I have filed a FOIA request with Prince George's County Memorial Library System.  PGCMLS has 30 days to respond, starting tomorrow.

Librarians Collude to Hide Truth From Parents and Legislators

Librarians collude to hide truth from parents and legislators.  Whether they are the President of the Texas Library Association flat out lying to Texas legislators or anonymous librarians chatting in a private Facebook group, the point is the same—keep people in the dark about how librarians are intentionally harming school children.

So let me show you the lying that Mary Woodward just did, pictured at right, followed by breaking whistleblower news on how librarians collude to violate open government rules.

Mary Woodard, President of TXLA

Mary Woodard stood before the Texas legislature and testified as follows:

Partnering with parents is a best practice for school librarians.  In fact, we LOVE parents who are interested in what their kids are reading.

That sounds nice.  Even emphasis on the word, "love."  It's a complete lie.  The head of the Texas Library Association just lied outright to Texas legislators to fool them into opposing legislation her TXLA opposes.

Watch her say this in the video linked here regarding #HB900 starting at 2:35:

20230321 88th HB900 TxLege Public Education Hearing - Tx Library Assoc. President, 2023. https://vimeo.com/818015939/6c2b71469a.

It's a flat out lie because reality is 100% the opposite.  School librarians will not partner with parents, and they HATE parents who are interested in what their kids are reading.  This is the reality.  This is known because TXLA trains librarians to hide information from parents despite the law precisely to keep parents in the dark about what their children are reading.  See:

Kleinman, Dan. “School Librarians Train to Violate FOIA Law to Keep Parents In the Dark About Sexualizing Children.” SafeLibraries® (blog), December 5, 2022. https://safelibraries.blogspot.com/2022/12/school-librarians-train-to-violate-foia.html.

So much for "increasing transparency," another lie by Mary Woodard before the Texas legislators.  Are there no consequences for flat out lying—and repeated lying—during testimony to the Texas legislature?

What the Whistleblower Revealed

As if to evidence the corrosive effect of the training to keep parents and legislators in the dark by actively thwarting compliance with Texas law, librarians are now colluding with each other on Facebook to hide truth from parents.

This was just disclosed to me by a whistleblower, because even librarians can't stand the disservice and the illegality being done by their peers to harm children:

Librarians online are starting to avoid using searchable terms to talk about book challenges.

“My superintendent received a "request" for a list of books that the district libraries have on some specific topics.  (I will let you surmise what those might be. 😑)  My initial reaction it to provide the link (which is posted publicly) to Destiny and call it a day.  (We have supportive admin.)  Thoughts?”

“That’s exactly what I did along with “ our entire book collection always has been, and always will be posted publicly on our school website.”  I left it at that and they can do their own fishing.”

“If you go through your legal department, talk to them about "topics" requested and the fact that catalogs use specific "subjects" or key words for search purposes.  If this gets super sticky, those distinctions could be important.”

“took me 11 hours to do a FOIA request as requested by my Super.  No one else knows how to run the data they were asking for.

This was my response to the whistleblower:

Could you expand on that so I understand it better?

This was the whistleblowers's response to me (with my own [changes] to bypass censors):

The first’s message was the original post.  The quotes that follow are from responses.

It’s fairly clear what the librarians are talking about but they’re making an effort to avoid using words or terms like: censorship, LGBTQ+, p[0]rn, p[0]rnographic, challenge, and parents.

The overall tone of the conversation was bitter and angry.  “Make them do their own fishing.” —> make it hard for concerned parents to investigate if the library has filthy, inappropriate material.

It was the obfuscation in the post that really caught my eye, as well as how annoyed the librarians were to having to do the work of responding to things like FOIA requests

Me:

So the sentence, librarians online are starting to avoid using searchable terms to talk about book challenges, you’re saying that that was part of a Facebook post to the public and that is not a statement that you are making to me?  If so, have you a URL?

Further response:

The librarians avoiding using searchable terms is my interpretation of this post.  It could be incorrect.  This was in a private Facebook group called “Learning Librarians.”

Hidden in Plainview

Let me close by reminding people that Texas school librarians may have been directly involved in the forced s3xual activity on a first grader by other first graders in Plainview ISD, by providing books that became the model for the forced activity, and my inquiry into that is being stonewalled as we speak because they have not reduced or eliminated fees in accordance with law:

Kleinman, Dan. “Plainview ISD TPIA-FOIA Request.” SafeLibraries® (blog), May 10, 2023. https://safelibraries.blogspot.com/2023/05/plainview-isd-tpia-foia-request.html.

Conclusion:  Collusion

From the above and more, it's hard not to conclude librarians collude to hide the truth from parents and legislators.  Their leaders lie to legislators, they are trained to hide the truth from parents in a manner that violates open government laws, they collude online to "avoiding using searchable terms," and now my TPIA/FOIA request is being suppressed.

Thank you to the whistleblower.  More whistleblowers are welcome to contact me.

Lastly, help fund the stonewalled FOIA request:

Librarians Use ALA Platform to Bully Parents Opposing Drag Queens Sexualizing Children in Libraries

Librarians protect their fellow Marxists at all costs, even crossing all borders.  Here on an American Library Association platform (on Facebook) they compare kids wanting to be dinosaurs and superheroes to drag queens.  Librarian Jennie Audrey gets triggered by seeing someone opposing drag queens for kids in a Canadian library and reacts by asking the 54.2K+ members of the ALA Facebook closed group called Library Think Tank - #ALATT to "outnumber the negative comments with positive comments and support this librarian providing access to a Drag program."  They do.  You see, librarians have a hidden network to collude with each other how to better s3xualize and propagandize more children.  This is just one such example.

The person about whom she complains, Marco Moreau, says,
Hello family and friends!  If you would like to email or contact the Parkhill library or the lady who is putting on a “story time for all ages” by a drag queen please respectfully email

lbrock@middlesex.ca

Or call

519-294-6583

People can do as they please but my children would like to learn there abc’s and 123’s not be influenced they can magically be turned into a girl or boy at the ages of “story time” I’d assume 3-8 years of age.

I say this with no offence but there is much more children of that age, should be taking in.  If my son told me he wanted to be Batman for a day,he would want too and possibly, me letting him would possibly influence him into thinking he was Batman for years.

What agenda they are pushing is unfair to children and parents who allow it are sick in the head.

# letchildrenbechildren!
So Jennie Aubrey writes to start the bullying process:
Hi all,

I saw this shared by a "friend" and I am disappointed.  Hoping we can instead outnumber the negative comments with positive comments on this post and support this librarian providing access to a Drag program.

There then follows a lot of comments, including these, just the tip of the iceberg on bullying and gaslighting and astroturfing that is so typical of librarians:
Jamie Keller
Don't dress as a bat, man, that might make you trans-ylvanian.

Taryn DeeCee
Ahh yes.  This is why we've historically seen just tons of children who dressed up as superheroes or princesses or dinosaurs, for say a birthday party or Halloween, decided that they  were superheroes and princesses and dinosaurs for years.  Because children notoriously do not understand costumes and have never ever in the history of all time played dress up.  🙄 (Heavy sarcasm, btw)

Erin Matlin
I say we email this director with words of support and encouragement.  Let her know that we support her.

Christine Clear to Erin Matlin
I just did!

Misty Wyscarver
Here is the comment I left on his two posts:::::

Marco Moreau, I'm so sorry that you have been lied to about Drag Queen Story Hours.  They aren't sex parties in front of children.  They aren't grooming workshops with the goal of making your child LGBTQIA.  Please stop believing that there is some hidden sexual agenda.  There isn't.  Anyone telling you that there is, is lying to you and setting you up to be a political pawn.

Story Hours- and I mean all story hours have the goals of establishing early childhood literacy skills and reading readiness.  They also enhance social skills by allowing children to interact....

Katrina Stokes
Ah, the irony of someone using the "place of learning" argument but doesn't know the difference between *there* and *their*.

Anna Nellis
Because everyone knows letting your kid pretend to be Batman for a day is a slippery slope that can lead to them being confused forever 🙄

That's why all of my childhood Halloween costumes became lifelong, identity shifting obsessions.  God, the amount of therapy it took to convince me I wasn't Nala from the Lion King...

Katrina Stokes to Anna Nellis
right??  I should be a warrior, a princess or  MFing dragon!!!

Anna Nellis to Katrina Stokes
unfortunately the fact that I went as a witch multiple times DOES track tbh 😂
You can go to Marco Moreau's post to see the librarians here are harassing him there.  For example, Misty Wyscarver says, "Really?  The stupidity is coming from your narrow, hateful minds.  You don’t realize how ridiculous and ignorant you make yourselves appear."

Oh, this is precious, Misty adds:
For generations more genders have been recognized than just the binary.  Native Americans recognized those referred to as two- spirit.  In India the Hijra are recognized as the third gender meaning they are neither completely male or female.  Please visit the library and research it.  There are more than XX XY genders.  There are XXY and XYY medically recognized.  There also intersex people who are born with both genitalia.
I am not the problem.  Ignorance is the problem.
This is what librarians do to push their way into community after community.  They use an ALA-provided centralized means of communication to send out the bat signal, organize, then attack.  Also across borders.  And this is happening in your own community even if you don't realize it, precisely because it's done in hidden ways, in this case a private/closed Facebook group that people/parents cannot see, as this instance illustrates.

The above information is so fresh that people are still writing comments there even now.

So there's the latest, freshest example of librarians using an ALA platform to bully parents opposing drag queens s3xualizing children—even in Canada.

Note to Vermont Governor Re S220 Library Confidentiality Legislation

Here's an example of another way the ALA pushes its agenda nationally. In this case, the Vermont Library Association decided to use ALA policy to create legislation requiring parents to get a court order to see their own children's library records starting at age 13. That legislation has been amended to age 16 as a compromise, but it has been sent to Vermont Governor Jim Douglas for his signature (05/07/2008). Therefore, I used the Governor's online, 1000 letter limit web form to send him this message:
Governor,

Please don't sign S220 until the age that parents are cut off from children's library records is 18, not 16.

From what I can see so far, the Vermont Library Association came up with this sua sponte, and did so specifically naming the American Library Association as its source of inspiration.

Not only is the ALA external to Vermont, but the ALA has said despite what the US Supreme Court said in US v. ALA, ALA policy will remain unchanged. And that policy includes that it is age discrimination to keep children from any library material whatsoever. What the ALA is ignoring in the case it lost is, "The interest in protecting young library users from material inappropriate for minors is legitimate, and even compelling, as all Members of the Court appear to agree."

The ALA does not agree with that, yet the VLA uses the ALA as inspiration? Please - 18 at least. The VLA's interests here lies with ALA policy, not with VT's children. Don't compromise on VT children.

Thanks.
On this subject, I sent out the following request for information:
Dear Charlene Dindo,

Re: Legislative History of S.220 ( http://www.leg.state.vt.us/docs/legdoc.cfm?URL=/docs/2008/bills/passed/S-220.HTM ), please advise me of, or tell me how to get access to the legislative history of S.220. I am asking you since your name is associated with that linked document, but please forward this to someone who can answer the below questions if you can or may not.

In particular, I am looking to see the source of this legislation, namely, whether that source is internal (Vermont Library Association) or external (American Library Association) to Vermont.

Regarding the age of the children originally proposed to be protected from invasions of privacy by their own parents being age 13 and up, I would like to see if and how that age has changed any, if at all, during the legislative process, and why. I see the age is currently set at 16. How did that happen and why -- was it based on similar rights obtained by children in Vermont at the same age (like driving, voting, drinking) or was it based on "compromise," and who were the parties to the compromise and what were their arguments.

I shall assume these records are available under some open records law, and I will be happy to pay reasonable costs for photocopying any information that answers my request. Please call me at [# elided] to advise of the cost before it is incurred, but anything less than $25 has my blanket approval and no call will be necessary.

I will also assume public notice has been made of this legislative activity and that public records of public hearings are available, perhaps even transcripts online, and any related hearings. I would like to have the URLs for that information, and I would like to learn how I can obtain that information otherwise.

Lastly, if the bill is headed for the Governor's signature as a Vermont Library Association source suggests, please advise me of the expected date of signature and of the means to contact the Governor so that I may exercise my own intellectual freedom in this matter. Given this, if my requests for information can be available in a timely fashion so that I may make an informed comment, that would be greatly appreciated.

FYI, I have begun to follow this issue, and I have a public list of links to related materials here: http://del.icio.us/plan2succeed/S220 I would really like to know what media coverage has been provided on the issue so that I may determine the extent to which that coverage was fair and balanced, then advise the Governor accordingly.

Thank you very much.
